Sheriffs Offices in Arkansas
The sheriff’s offices in Arkansas are 77 in total, and a county sheriff heads each office. The role of the county sheriff is to enforce the laws of the state. Each sheriff has his department, which comprises around 100 people.
Sheriffs have deputies who serve under them. Deputies are responsible for enforcing the laws of the state as well as protecting citizens.
Each sheriff can appoint up to two deputy chiefs. Deputy Chiefs are responsible for managing the departments of the sheriff’s office.
Deputy Chief positions are usually held by someone who is already working in the sheriff’s office. These individuals are usually called assistant chiefs.
These assistants are often promoted to deputy chief after serving several years in the position.

Arkansas Corrections and Inmate Search
The Arkansas Department of Corrections handles the incarceration of inmates. The department is responsible for maintaining a secure prison system, providing medical care to prisoners, and ensuring inmates are kept safe from harm.
The department also has responsibility for making parole and probation decisions for offenders who have been convicted of crimes. The department’s website provides information about how to contact the department directly or through its local offices.
Additionally, the Arkansas DOC ensures that every inmate receives adequate food, clothing, shelter, health care, and other necessities necessary to meet their basic needs.
In order to ensure that these needs are met, the department employs approximately 10,000 people. These employees include correctional officers, nurses, psychologists, social workers, chaplains, teachers, cooks, maintenance personnel, and others.
Inmate Housing
Male offenders currently on death row get housing at the Ouachita River Correctional Unit, while women are housed at McPherson Unit. All the units are manned by correctional officers 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
All inmates must wear an identification tag indicating their name, race, sex, date of birth, offense, and sentence length. Besides, the identification shows whether they are serving time for murder, rape, manslaughter, aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, theft, possession of drugs, arson, or any other crime.
Each unit consists of dormitories with single-sex cells, double-bunking, and two showers. Each cell contains a bed, desk, dresser, toilet, sink, mirror, and radio.
The DOC department has 23 facilities spread throughout the state. However, most of them are in rural areas where there are no nearby towns. This means that it’s difficult to find out exactly where the facility is located.
However, if you want to know more about the location of your loved one’s prison, you can use the internet to search for the nearest prisons. You can also call the department directly to ask questions or request additional information.
Prisoners may receive visits from family members, friends, attorneys, clergymen, and volunteers. Visits must be scheduled in advance and approved by the warden.
How to Conduct an Inmate Search
Inmates feel lonely and isolated when they’re locked away from society. They often feel like they don’t belong anywhere. It’s important to let them know that they are not alone.
You can do this by visiting them regularly. If possible, you should visit them as soon as you learn that they’ve been transferred to another facility.
Before you visit an inmate, be sure to conduct an inmate search first. This will help you identify their whereabouts.
The DOC provides an online database that allows visitors to search for inmates based on name, age, gender, race, religion, ethnicity, and other factors.
Once there, enter the inmate’s full name, first and last names, middle initial, date of birth, and current address into the fields.
This will provide you with a list of all inmates whose information matches their criteria. If you don’t find your inmate here, try searching again using different parameters.
If you still cannot locate them, you can call the department directly to inquire about their whereabouts.
Inmate Search Step-by-step Procedure
There are two options for inmate search.
Inmate Search Using the ADC Number
The inmate search using the ADC number is quick and easy.
- To start, enter the ADC number in the database
- Click search and wait for results
- If the number is correct, you’ll have the details of the inmate
Inmate Search by Names
This is the second procedure that requires inmates’ names. If you have the two names, then it becomes easy to perform the search. However, if you have only the last name, you’ll search, but the list provides inmates related to your search where you pick the inmate you are interested in.
Follow these steps.
- Enter the inmate’s last name in the spaces provided
- Click to search and wait for the list of inmates available
- Identify the specific inmate you want
- Click on their ADC number to get more details about them
Note that while conducting inmate search, you can choose to get inmates’ details with photos. If this is your option, ensure you mark all the required boxes before clicking submit.

In conclusion, the Arkansas Sheriffs Association and the inmate search are key when looking for information in Arkansas. It is important to understand how the ASA works and how to locate inmates using the department of corrections website.
